Woman having radiofrequency microneedling treatmentMicro-Needling, also referred to as collagen induction therapy is a treatment where controlled micro-injuries are made to the skin resulting in new collagen and elastin. Micro-Needling treats fine lines and wrinkles, skin laxity, texture, tone, color, hyperpigmentation, acne scarring, stretch marks and overall skin rejuvenation. Micro-Needling treatments are often combined with PRP treatments to further stimulate collagen production, promote faster healing and recovery and act as the “gift wrap to your gift”.

Microneedling Pre & Post-Op Care

What is PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma)?

PRP, Platelet-Rich-Plasma, is what we call “your body’s liquid gold”. Your body’s PRP has more than eight essential growth factors which are anti-aging, collagen stimulating and recovery boosting agents that when released and activated properly will leave your skin glowing. PRP and Micro-Needling are combined to maximize your results, give you the best of both treatments and stimulate your recovery period to a shorter time. When PRP is absorbed into your skin during your Micro-Needling treatment, collagen production is increased and you are immediately left with a beautiful glow after your treatment. Micro-Needling and PRP can be done on all skin types and tones.

Benefits of Microneedling with PRP

Microneedling with PRP is more than just a treatment—it’s a comprehensive solution for a variety of skin issues. Experience benefits such as:

Our microneedling procedure can be tailored to treat various areas, including:

Am I a Good Candidate for Microneedling and PRP?

The best candidates for a microneedling and PRP treatment are people who want to correct scars, wrinkles, stretch marks, skin laxity, or hyperpigmentation. Microneedling combined with PRP highly increases collagen production, which can help treat these skin conditions. This combination is a good choice for people who want a non-surgical option for correcting visible signs of skin aging.

Before considering microneedling and PRP, you will need to fully treat acne, broken skin, and cold sores to avoid exacerbating these issues.

How the Treatment Process Works

On the day of your treatment, a small amount of your blood is drawn and placed in a centrifuge to separate the platelet-rich plasma (PRP). Once your skin is cleansed and numbed with a topical anesthetic, a specialized Microneedling device creates controlled micro-injuries on your skin’s surface. These tiny punctures stimulate the body’s natural healing response, increasing collagen and elastin production.

Immediately after Microneedling, the PRP is applied to the treated areas. The micro-channels created by the Microneedling allow the PRP to penetrate deeply, enhancing healing and further stimulating collagen production for improved skin texture and tone. The entire process is designed to ensure effective treatment and optimal results.

How to Prepare for Your Microneedling and PRP Treatment

Aesthetic Winner
Prior to your Micro-Needling and PRP appointment, you are asked to discontinue the use of any active ingredient skincare such as tretinoin, hydroquinone, glycolic acid, and any retinol products for seven days. You will be advised as to which products can be used following your treatment and when to resume using your day-to-day products.

This is necessary because microneedling creates micro injuries in the skin. Leaving your skin sensitive from exfoliants and retinol products may risk skin damage.

Before your microneedling and PRP session, avoid alcohol consumption and smoking. Both lifestyle habits can lead to excessive bleeding, slower wound healing, and a weakened immune system. Refrain from drinking alcohol and smoking for a time before your treatment session for best results.

You may need to avoid non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications for at least five days before and after the procedure. These medications can hold back your body’s natural inflammatory response and affect your platelet production. Consult with your doctor for directions regarding any temporary medication changes.

What to Expect During Your Microneedling and PRP Treatment

You will arrive 30 minutes prior to your scheduled appointment time for application of a topical numbing cream to the area that will be treated. At that time, a small amount of your blood will be drawn and put into a centrifuge to separate the plasma from other components of your blood. The plasma, PRP, will then be penetrated into the skin curing your Micro-Needling treatment.

Post-Treatment Care and Recovery

Avoid direct exposure to the sun after your treatment for 7 days and be sure to wear sun block when going out. Because of the nature of Micro-Needling and PRP treatments, you want to ensure your maximum results by following your provider’s after-care instructions.
Micro-Needling and PRP treatments are done every 4-6 weeks. The number of treatments will vary from patient to patient, typically ranging from 4-8 sessions. A combination of Micro-Needling and PRP and HydraFacialMD® treatments may be advised for maximum esthetic correction.

Eclipse PRP

Post-treatment, you may experience mild redness, swelling, and a sensation similar to a sunburn, which typically subsides within 1-3 days. Some patients might notice slight bruising or pinpoint bleeding immediately after the procedure. Most patients can resume normal activities within 24-48 hours, although it’s advisable to avoid strenuous exercise, excessive sun exposure, and makeup application for the first 24 hours.

Proper aftercare is essential for optimal results. We recommend keeping the treated area clean and moisturized, using a gentle cleanser and avoiding any harsh skincare products for a few days. Applying a broad-spectrum sunscreen is crucial to protect the skin from UV damage. Hydration is key—drink plenty of water and avoid alcohol and caffeine, which can dehydrate the skin. Follow any additional post-treatment care instructions provided by your practitioner to enhance the healing process and achieve the best possible outcomes.

How Long Will the Results Last?

Results from your PRP microneedling can be visible within a few weeks, with continued improvement over several months as collagen production increases. Results can last up to a year, with maintenance treatments extending the benefits.

Cost and Consultation

The cost of microneedling with PRP varies based on individual needs and the number of sessions required. During your consultation, we provide a detailed cost estimate tailored to your treatment plan.

Potential Risks and Side Effects

Microneedling with PRP is generally a safe procedure, but like any medical treatment, it carries some potential side effects. Common side effects include redness and swelling, similar to a mild sunburn, which usually subsides within a few days. Some patients may experience mild bruising or pinpoint bleeding immediately after the treatment. There’s also a possibility of temporary dryness or flaking as the skin heals and regenerates. Although rare, there’s a slight risk of infection if proper aftercare instructions are not followed. It’s important to adhere to the provided post-treatment care guidelines to minimize these risks and ensure optimal healing and results.
